All the military Syrian parties are still calling for a political solution as the only way out of the Syrian crisis, and the international community supports this demand, while the Constitutional Committee has become the only outlet, which through it can define the features of the future Syria and return again to the dialogue table.
But the military parties are not very interested in the work of the Constitutional Committee, therefore they are trying hard to achieve military victories on the ground, whether they are opposition or regime, while politicians from both parties have not succeeded so far in achieving positive results for the constitutional reform process in Geneva.
As for the Syrians, those who represent them from the civil society organizations, they are awaiting with great importance the results that the Constitutional Committee may produce, but their dreams are fading in front of the wall of marginalization practiced by some regional countries when they chose the names of the members of the Constitutional Committee instead of the Syrians choosing them, but despite that, Some local organizations tried to collect the views and aspirations of the Syrians towards the new constitution and communicate them to the Constitutional Committee through the US State Department.
Despite the importance of this activity, the committee is already suffering from problems that may prevent it from recognizing these demands. The Turkish state, which occupies large lands of Syria, in addition to Russia, which imposes its agendas in the areas it occupies, and both of them lead a wide range of names within the Constitutional Committee, They will not back down from forcing the committee to neglect the demands of the people of North and East Syria.
Everyone realizes that the population living in the areas of the Autonomous Administration has many demands, the most important is related to the form of the system of government in Syria, they aspire to expanded political decentralization, thus a federal system of government that guarantees the unity of the Syrian territories and also guarantees that all religious and national components in Syria are protected.
The future of the work of the Constitutional Committee cannot be predicted, unless the US leadership plays a wide-ranging political role to pressure all the conflicted parties in Syria. In the absence of this pressure, the Syrian crisis will last longer than everyone expects, and there will be no other real opportunity that can be relied upon. In other words, a political solution will not again be the only way out of the crisis.
