Ezdina Organization has allocated its seventeenth dialogue session within the project "A Constitution That Protects Us" to representatives of religious and national minorities in the city of Tirbespiyê/Al-Qahtaniya.
Ezdina held its seventeenth dialogue session on the work of the Constitutional Committee and the Geneva Conferences within its project "A Constitution That Protects Us" in Northeastern Syria, on June 14, 2021 at the Yazidi House in the city of Tirbespiyê, in the presence of representatives of the religious and national communities in the town and its countryside.
The representative of the Syriac-Assyrian in the notables body in Northeastern Syria, Yousef Elias, stated that they need a constitution that protects them, a constitution that builds modern Syria, a constitution that builds citizenship among all components, so that the Syrian people are one.
Elias added that the constitution should be changed in order for them to become first-class citizens, pointing out that he is entitled to vote, but not to nominate himself for the presidency or any other position.
Elias indicated that they want citizenship, equality and justice among all the peoples of Syria.
Elias pointed out that those who are currently drafting the constitution do not represent the Syrians and are linked to foreign agendas and take their instructions from abroad regarding changing the constitution.
Elias said that a constitution should be drafted in the hands of Syria, and that the solution to the Syrian crisis should be in the hands of Syrians, without the interference of foreign hands.
For her part, the administrator of the Women's Office of the Syrian Democratic Council in Tirbespiyê, Nahia Suleiman, said that the session on the Syrian constitution under the title "A Constitution That Protects Us" was rich, during which they were briefed on the the Syrian crisis, the Geneva conferences, the work of the Constitutional Committee and the upcoming Syrian constitution.
Sulaiman added that the residents of the area demand that the Autonomous Administration be involved in the process of drafting the constitution to guarantee the rights of the Syrian people.
Sulaiman indicated that as a woman of the Arab component, she wishes to have a voice and participate in the Constitutional Committee because that is her right as a woman, pointing to the positive role of women in the Autonomous Administration.
For his part, Fares Shamo, one of the notables of the Yazidis, demanded that the Yazidi religion be recognized in the new Syrian constitution, and that their demands be accepted as Yazidis, like the rest of the components, to freely practice their customs, traditions and religious rituals.
Shamo added that there should be no discrimination between the Syrian components, whether they are Kurds, Syriacs or Arabs, and that there should be equality among all components under a Syrian constitution.
Shamo pointed out that the Yazidis were subjected to many genocides and injustices, as their villages and lands are still looted so far, because the Syrian state granted them to some Arabs.
Shamo pointed out that the religion is written "Muslim" for the Yazidi component members in the field for civil status, and the study of the Islamic or Christian religion in schools is imposed on them, while in the courts, Islamic legitimacy is applied to them and they are treated as Muslims.
Shamo added that there is a distinction between the components, calling for the removal of this distinction so that everyone is equal, especially the Yazidis, because they were deprived of all their rights.
It is noteworthy that Ezdina launched a new project in Northeastern Syria, under the title "A Constitution That Protects Us", starting from February 23, 2021 for a period of three months.
