Outputs of the sixteenth dialogue session in Tirbespiyê

Ezdina Organization held its sixteenth dialogue session at the Yazidi House in the city of Tirbespiyê/Al-Qahtaniya as part of the project “A Constitution That Protects Us” on 12.06.2021 for women. The session started at 11:00 and ended at 15:00.

The session was moderated by Dr. Abeer Hassaf.

14 women participated in the session as representatives of active institutions, parties, media institutions in North and East Syria, according to the following percentages:

  • Soleen Hassan - Assistant Women's Track Coordinator
  • Jamila Mahmi - School Principal
  • Farha Issa - a member of the Fraternity Party
  • Jawaher Tammo - Member of the Democratic Union Party
  • Hiyam Al-Nahit - Member of the Brotherhood Party
  • Zozan Shammo - a spokeswoman for the Women's Council of the Future Syria Party in the Jazira region
  • Khadija Ali - Teacher
  • Nisreen Ibrahim - Teacher
  • Rehab Muhammad - Deputy of Qamishlo District Council/ Qamishli
  • Helen Muhammad - Co-chair of the Water Department in Terbeh Spieh / Al Qahtaniyah
  • Janan Majdo - a member of the Future Syria Party

Main topics of the session:
  • The Syrian crisis and the Geneva conferences.
  • Syria's next constitution.
  • The Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
  • The role of the constitution in meeting the requirements of women.

The facilitator started talking about the nine Geneva conferences and their results in detail, then the door was opened for discussion, consultations and questions by the participants, and all the questions were answered by the session facilitator.

Then, human rights defender Dilsha Ayo joined the dialogue session, via the Zoom, to talk about the importance of drafting constitutions in countries suffering from wars, and the danger of not including Northeastern Syria in the constitutional committee.

Ayo stressed that there is no complete and balanced constitution without the participation of all parties and all the people of Syria.

Ayo pointed out that her name was put up among the members of the Constitutional Committee, and then refused her participation in the committee, because her positions do not correspond to Turkish policies and pointed out the danger of foreign powers manipulating the fate of the Syrian people.

In the second axis, The member of the Constitutional Committee, Dr. Dorsen Oskan, joined the session via the “Zoom” to talk about the establishment and composition of the Constitutional Committee and the drawbacks of representing the Committee, in addition to talking about the main reasons for the failure of the Constitutional Committee in its work so far.

Then the session facilitator divided the attendees into 3 groups to develop and discuss a set of recommendations and proposals, to arrive at several general proposals that were agreed upon by all participants.

At the conclusion of the dialogue session, the participants agreed on a set of recommendations and proposals to be submitted to the Syrian Constitutional Committee, including:
  • Woman's right to work.
  • Equal pay for males and females.
  • Opening large and small projects that help develop society.
  • Establishment of special centers for women.
  • Formation and organization of a ministry concerned with women's affairs.
  • Making economic decisions that pertain to the country.
  • Ensuring women's rights and empowering their role in leadership.
  • Achieving equality.
  • The right of women to form political parties and organizations.
  • Preserving the right of women.
  • Protecting women from all kinds of violence.
  • Health and social security.
  • Prohibition of discrimination in all its forms.
  • The right of a mother to pass on citizenship to her children.
  • The right of women to join in the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
  • Determining the legal age of marriage.
  • Establishing a law for perpetrators of honor killings.
