
Ezdina Organization held its third dialogue session within the project "A Constitution That Protects
Us", on Tuesday, at Ezdina's office in the city Qamishlo/Qamishli, in the presence of a group of women and civic activists.
The coordinator of Pêl Organization, Sidar Othman, one of the participants in the session, stated that a quota system should be adopted regarding the participation of women in the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
Othman added that the constitution must be compatible with a gender perspective in order to ensure the participation of women in decision-making.
Othman referred to the importance of the dialogue session in submitting recommendations and proposals related to women to the Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
For her part, the administrator of the Sara Organization for Combating Violence against Women, Manal Hassan, said that the next constitution must stipulate the right of women to political work and partnership in decision-making positions by running for any position in the state, including the position of the presidency of the republic and ministries, in addition to her participation in International forums, negotiation, reconciliation and civil peace committees.
Hassan added that citizenship rights must be constitutionally equal between men and women, pointing to the importance of achieving justice for women in cases of rape, compensation for victims, and putting in place laws that protect women from violence.
In turn, the session's facilitator, Omar Ali, explained that holding a dialogue session for women came in conjunction with International Women's Day.
Ali added that the dialogue session for women discussed the future of Syria, the political process and what is happening in the halls of the United Nations with regard to finding a solution to the Syrian crisis.
Ali pointed out that the women participating in the session agreed on a set of recommendations and proposals for ensuring the right of women to participate in decision-making positions through constitutional articles, pointing out that these demands will be referred to the Syrian Constitutional Committee in order to take them into account in the constitution to be drawn up.
In addition, the member of media office at Ezdina Organization, Avin Sheikhmous, explained that the third dialogue session within the project "A Constitution That Protects Us" is dedicated to women, with the aim of informing them of the constitutional process.
Sheikhmous added that the Organization learned during the session the views of women regarding the percentage of women’s representation and their demands in this regard in order to submit recommendations to the Constitutional Committee.
Ezdina Organization dedicated its second dialogue session, which was held, on Monday, to the youth group, where a group of young women and men, participated in the session.
It is noteworthy that Ezdina Organization launched its new project in northeastern Syria, under the title "A Constitution That Protects Us", started on February 23, 2021, for a period of three months.
