The leader of the Syriac Union Party in Syria, Sanhrib Barsom, said that they have an objection to the mechanism of forming the Constitutional Committee, and the extent which it represents the components of Syria, especially the Assyrian Syriac component, which demands an active and equal role with all components to establish its rights in the constitution of Syria.
Barsom demanded that the constitutional committee be restructured so that the constitutional committee be representative of all components of the Syrian people, and there be a role for the international community in pursuing political work through Resolution 2254 to reach a political solution.
Barsom added that there must be supra-constitutional principles in the constitution of Syria, which include many basic points and recognition of the cultural, political and national rights of the Syriac component and the rest of the other components.
Barsom pointed to the importance of having basic points in the constitution regarding the issue of religions, equality between them and non-discrimination between them in the Syrian constitution, in order to achieve coexistence and equality between all components and to consecrate freedom, democracy and rights for all Syrians.
It is noteworthy that the leader of the Syriac Union Party in Syria, Sanhrib Barsom, participated along with political leaders and representatives of political parties in the northeastern regions of Syria, in the fifth dialogue session held by Ezdina Organization, on Thursday 25 March, in the city of Qamishlo/Qamishli.
