The leader of the Syriac Union Party in Syria, Sanhrib Barsom, said that the dialogue sessions sponsored by the US State Department which Ezdina Organization holds, evidence of the American government's interest in reaching a political solution by hearing the voices of the Syrian people, pointing out that he hopes that the American role will achieve balance to reach a political solution to the Syrian situation.
Barsom's speech came during his participation in the fifth dialogue session held by the Ezdina Organization, last Thursday, in the city of Qamishlo/Qamishli within the framework of its project "A Constitution that Protects Us", in the presence of political leaders and representatives of political parties in the north and east of Syria.
Barsom explained that the control of the countries sponsoring the Astana talks over the Syrian situation achieved their interests and political papers, while the Syrian people brought destruction and demographic change in some areas as a result of the agreements in Astana, pointing out that those countries, namely "Russia, Iran and Turkey", want a political solution according to their size and according to their interests.
Barsom added that America and the Security Council must play a role in the political process in order to implement Security Council Resolution 2254.
Barsom pointed to the need for fair representation in any committee, whether constitutional or otherwise, calling for the restructuring of the constitutional committee and the activation of all its committees, taking into account fair and balanced representation between all national and religious components.
The Syrian politician pointed out that the representation of the Kurds in the Constitutional Committee through the Kurdish National Council is not sufficient and that the presence of one Kurdish person within the mini-committee is unfair, and that the Syriac and Assyrian components do not even have one representative within the mini-committee, indicating that the Syriac component is absent as part of the original people of Syria is a crime against this people.
Barsom stressed the importance of the state's neutrality towards religions, pointing out that what the opposition delegation did in the penultimate session of the committee of trying to give an Arab and Islamic character to Syria and the constitution be in accordance with Islamic law is a frightening thing for most of the components of Syria.
Barsom added that the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar Al-Assad, subsequently made statements confirming the principles of the similarity of the vision of the Islamic opposition with the vision of the Arab regime, which is a terrifying indicator.
The leader of the Syriac Union Party in Syria concluded his speech by calling for supra-constitutional principles to be adopted in the constitution of Syria to ensure the protection of national and religious rights for all components, to bring Syria to safety.
