Ezdina Organization dedicated its fourth dialogue session, within the project "A Constitution That Protects Us," for representatives of minorities, religious and national components in the region.
The fourth dialogue session was held, in coordination with the Zamin Organization in the city of Qamishlo/Qamishli.
The head of the Christian Religious Sciences Department at the University of Rojava, Hanna Somi, stated that religious minorities such as Syriacs, Armenians and Assyrians in addition to the Yazidis, aspire to ensure the protection of minorities in the constitution.
Somi added that religion must be separated from the state, barriers between different religions should be abolished, and a secular non-sectarian or sectarian constitution should be put in place, in addition to abolishing the word "Arab" from the name of Syria in the constitution, so that it becomes the "Republic of Syria" as it was seventy years ago.
In turn, the co-chair of the Yazidi House in Al-Jazira region, Farouk Tozo, explained that they discussed during the dialogue session the feasibility of the conferences held in Geneva.
Tozo added that the Geneva conferences do not represent the Syrians and the Syrian components on the ground, pointing out that there are foreign agendas in the conference, as a religious component they are not represented inside it.
Tozo pointed out that they are not alone as Yazidis who did not attend these conferences, but rather that there is a wide spectrum of the Syrian society concerned with this crisis that is not present in these meetings.
For his part, the facilitator of the dialogue session, lawyer Omar Ali, stated that there were discussions about mechanisms to protect components and minorities of the Syrian people during the dialogue session.
Ali added that the proposals and recommendations have been submitted to the Constitutional Committee, which includes mechanisms for protecting minorities.
In turn, the member of media office of Ezdina, Avin Sheikhmous, said that the participants in the fourth session were from religious and national minorities, in addition to the participation of the Director of the Endangered Peoples in the Middle East from Germany, Mr. Kamal Sido, and the representative of the Syrian Democratic Council in Washington, Mrs. Sinem Mohammad.
Sheikmous added that the participants expressed their views during the dialogue session and agreed that there is no complete constitution without real representation of minorities.
Ezdina held three sessions within its project "A Constitution That Protects Us". The first session was devoted to media professionals, while the second session targeted the youth group, while the third session was for women.
It is noteworthy that Ezdina Organization launched its new project, in northeastern Syria, under the title "A Constitution That Protects Us", started on February 23, 2021, for a period of three months.
