The member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria, Mohammad Ismail, said that opinions are close with regard to the procedural aspect of the constitutional committee, the mechanism of its formation, its components, and the percentage of representation in it, pointing out that the committee was formed by an international will and the Syrians have no will in it, neither the opposition, the regime, nor the civil society, noting that civil society was not the ones who chose the names of their bloc in the constitutional committee.
Ismail’s speech came during his participation in the fifth dialogue session held by Ezdina Organization, last Thursday, in the city of Qamishlo/Qamishli within the project "A Constitution That Protects Us", in the presence of political leaders and representatives of political parties in the North and East of Syria.
Ismail added that there are some observations on the percentage of representation in the Constitutional Committee and the absence of representation of many political and military forces, indicating that they are represented as a Kurdish National Council in it, and that their representation was in agreement with the Democratic Society Movement that any Kurdish party attends any international meeting on Syria represents all Kurds.
The Kurdish politician pointed out that the Kurdish National Council is represented within the opposition, noting that the number of Kurdish representatives in the committee is small and not commensurate with the percentage of Kurds in Syria, pointing to the existence of objective reasons for them as Kurds because they do not agree first, and because the selection of names was made by an international agreement.
The member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria noted that the focus should be on the basic principles of the constitution, especially the national and religious pluralism, the principle of separation of powers, the formation of parties, sovereignty, independence of the judiciary, elections, women's issues and the right to quota.
Ismail added that whoever represents the Syrians should focus on these principles, indicating that the regime is evading this, and therefore a work plan and methodology must be drawn up to start this work, because the regime does not search for a methodology, but rather raises issues of national sovereignty, occupations and other issues that have nothing to do with it.
Ismail pointed to the existence of controversial issues between the frameworks of the opposition itself, as well as between the opposition and the regime, due to the presence of the Kurds and Assyrians, for example the regime and the opposition agree on the name of the Syrian Arab Republic, but the vision of the Kurdish representatives is not to dye the state with a national character, but rather it must be dyed with a comprehensive national character as it was previously.
Ismail added that the opposition and the regime agree that the religion of the president is Islam, but the vision of the Kurds and the Assyrians is that this point should reflect the equality between the Syrian citizens and that no one should be distinguished over the last thing that may create problems between the components in Syria.
Ismail added that the issue of the Arabic language being the official language of the country, it must be noted here to add that languages such as Kurdish or Syriac are official in areas with the majority of the speakers.
Ismail pointed out that there are issues regarding the state’s flag and emblem, because they are fateful issues, and they are contentious issues, pointing out that the representatives of the Kurdish National Council will not be false witnesses to passing cases that contradict the aspirations of the region’s components, adding that they have formed a committee of experts to support their representatives, but it is not possible.
